As I was doing some reading and research in the office this morning I was reminded of this weekend and how muddy it was due to the saturation of rain over the past few weeks. Friday night I officiated a high-school football game in Byrdstown, Tn. (Pickett County) where the "field of play" was almost un-playable. We arrived at the school only to find that about 20 percent of the field was under water and the rest of it was a muddy, soupy foundation of a field to contend with. Reluctantly we continued with the game and I'm sure that with the many number of players from both schools, all the coaches, 6 officials, and many band members the "tide" or "gain" (whatever detergent preferred) stocks are booming right now!
This led me to the thoughts of how my "foundation" is with Christ. How is the "field of play" that I am playing on in my walk with God everyday? The bible tells us in Psalm 102 : 25 that God laid the foundations of the earth and the heavens are the work of His hands. Also in the book of 1 Corinthians 3 : 11 it says "For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ" (NIV). The universe made by the hand of God is our "field of play" and we have been commissioned by Him to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ and that Gospel is that He did lay a foundation for us. A foundation that IS NOT "muddy or soupy" it is a clear foundation of love and atonement for sin. The bible says that we have an advocate with the father, Jesus! He is our foundation and nothing else should be "built up" in our lives than Him and His gospel!
So how is your foundation today? Do you have a relationship with Him that is going to stand when the torrential rains come? I am determined that I'm going to stand on a "solid foundation" and that He is my Master Builder! Everything that we are should be "founded" by the Lord Jesus Christ. We don't have to walk on muddy, soupy ground in our devotion with Him, we can be on the solid rock and the "chief cornerstone" is the rock on which we stand with every aspect of our lives!
I encourage you today to be on the firm foundation of Jesus and give Him everything about you!
